Urban sketchers

Red Hook - a film about Tommy Kane from DannyGregory on Vimeo.

I've always admired the art from the Urbansketchers but i've always been a little wary of going outside, sitting for an extended period of time and sketching. Buildings are not my strong suit when it comes to drawing but i need to learn.

What's the crack, jack?

I haven't been around much lately, i've been mainly trying to conjure up some creativity and motivation but i've been having problems. I think it's because i am trying to force out some awesome all the while thinking, "Why bother? My expectations are too high."

But i've been falling victim to some of the traps in this video. So, things are going to change, starting now.

Fellow animator

I had my first ever encounter with an animator today, outside of college and any arranged meeting by the college and... it was weird.

Normally people ask me, "What do you do?" "What did you study?" and when i say animator i get the same response (general surprise and slight interest) so it was a jarring moment when the person i was talking to turned round and said "Really? Me too!".

From then on i kind of forgot how to talk, i was stunned because that ain't the way the convo usually goes.

I could've slapped myself because I should have conducted myself with more professionalism (asking more questions etc) and i also didn't listen to my gut by taking business cards with me today (your gut knows things), i wasn't going anywhere where i thought i really needed them but it's true, you never know who you might bump in to.

Ah well, you live and you learn. From now on i will carry business cards at all times.

I'm trying to make friends with Cinema 4D

Me and Cinema 4D, well we ain't exactly best buds.

I had a lot of issues with the software when i was using it on my course and recently i found that the knowledge i had aquired on some of the basic stuff had all but disappeared. So i'm starting from scratch and we're going to bond and work together like we should have done from the start.

Here's just a test/faff just to see what i can still do. Extruding splines and then the rest is just camera, lights and effects... I'm trying to emulate some sort of Abstergo loading screen (Needs work)

I'm also trying to get to grips with ToonBoom. The program is not especially difficult to use it's just trying to get your head around the shortcuts and layouts. But i'll get it!

Expect plenty of W.I.P's over the next few months.

Final Show

Final show was awesome as expected with a class like mine.

I managed to get santa skull finished in time after killing myself trying get his beard done (3 hours work alone).

Here he is...
(Cheers Ash for the pic)

Also one of my classmates David (MU.DEN. Productions) has posted some pics from the night HERE on his blog, check those and his work out too.

I couldn't get my spider animation finished in time to have it displayed so i had to chop everything i'd done so far and make a trailer. I may or may not go back to this idea but i know i'm taking a break from the spiders for a while...

Waiting for paint to dry

Literally watching paint dry here, still doing backgrounds for my spider animation. Wasn't happy with the quality so i'm redoing some scenes which means better backgrounds.

Anyways here's some more stuff from my current sketchbook. Wolverine sketches based on Steven E Gordon's character designs.

Drawing at night = Awesome

Dunno what it is but sitting and drawing early in the morning while the the TV is playing in the background really helps me unwind.

Estings 2011

The Estings competition is open again and i've dug up my intended sting from last year to submit (making a few alterations). It should be up on the site soon.

EDIT: Here it is.
